About SPARC
Founded in 2006, SPARC functions as the department of Electrical & Computer Engineering's student-led makerspace. Students are given opportunities to test their own ideas, integrate concepts learned in class, and compete with engineering students across the nation.
SPARC has previously participated in IEEE's SoutheastCon competition, NASA's Robotic Mining Competion, US Air Force Research Lab Challenge, and Auburn Engineering's E-Day exhibition.
Currently, we are working to return to the competition scene. In the meantime, our members are hard at work designing innovative technology implementations and developing the robust skillset needed for these events.
Some of the projects currently in progress at SPARC:
- R2-D2 - Designing and building a full-scale replica of the Star Wars icon. An all-encompassing embedded electronics and robotics venture.
- Ovante Time Study Logger - Embedded systems project using a Raspberry Pi setup to record and transmit time logging data. The results are part of a larger study to understand the effects of altitude and electromagnet forces on how time is experienced.
- Split Keyboard - Creating an ergonomic, micro-controller based split keyboard. Intentionally designed from the ground up for speed and efficiency.
- Audio Engineering - A decentralized set of projects to design various audiotechnical electrical equipment. Currently, we have produced some guitar effect pedals.
