Lab Resources & Equipment

Our lab space in Broun Hall(367), serves as SPARC's miniature makerspace. Here, ideas are transformed into tangible projects. Members gain access to an extensible collection of equipment designed to support everything from quick prototypes to competition ready builds.

  • 3D Printers Our Bambu and Ultimaker units handle rapid prototyping and precision parts across various materials and detail levels.
  • Soldering Station - Complete setup with soldering irons, wire, electrical tape, pliers, and safety equipment for circuit board work and electronic assembly.
  • Electronics - Comprehensive parts inventory from basic components like diodes and resistors to motor controllers and driver boards.
  • Robotics - Development kits containing microcontrollers, motors, and sensor arrays for learning and competition preparation.
  • Computers - We are currently working to install a high-performance workstation for machine learning, CAD workflows, and resource-intensive engineering applications.
  • Tools - Professional-grade mechanical and electrical tools, from hand tools to precision instruments like oscilloscopes and multimeters.

Showcase

SPARC is home to many projects, some of which are still in development. Below are a few of our current projects:

  • R2-D2 Robot - SPARC's current premier project, an emulation of the Star Wars character. R2 is remote controlled, plays sounds, controls hatches, and even has a camera.
  • Guitar Pedals - A group of projects focused on creating a versatile, open-source musical gear from scratch. Effect pedals are currently being developed, with plans for amplifiers and stacks in the works.
  • Plant Monitoring System - An embedded systems aimed at using a data-based approach to managing and optimizing the growth environment of various house plants.
