Lab Resources & Equipment
Our lab space in Broun Hall(367), serves as SPARC's miniature makerspace. Here, members transform ideas into tangible projects. Members gain access to an extensible collection of equipment designed to support you in every step of the process from building quick prototypes to producing commercial-grade products.
- 3D Printers - Modern printers and filament.
- Soldering Station - Irons, wire, electrical tape, pliers, and safety equipment.
- Electronics - Comprehensive parts inventory from basic components like diodes and resistors to motor controllers and driver boards.
- Robotics - Servos, microcontrollers, motors, and sensors.
- Tools - Oscilloscope, signal generator, hammers, drills, etc.
- Computers - Powerful workstation PC for CAD, programming, and machine learning. SBC's like Raspberry Pi.
Showcase
SPARC is currently hosting a multitude of engineering design projects.
- R2-D2 Robot - SPARC's current premier project, an emulation of the Star Wars character. R2 is remote controlled, plays sounds, controls hatches, and even has a camera.
- Guitar Pedals - A group of projects focused on creating a versatile, open-source musical gear from scratch. Effect pedals are currently being developed, with plans for amplifiers and stacks in the works.
- Plant Monitoring System - An embedded systems aimed at using a data-based approach to managing and optimizing the growth environment of various house plants.
- Meshtastic Network - Small, portable, long-range communication devices that utilize radio frequencies for sending short messages.
